Remote ENET
New in 2.0 · flash Ethernet ECUs remotely, MGU over HTTP

Code BMW remotely
right at the car.

The customer plugs in the ENET cable and starts the client. You connect over your VPN and work with E-Sys, ISTA or Tool32 as if you were standing next to it — including Ethernet ECUs like RAM and MGU, flashed over fast HTTP. Live vehicle status, chat and full control. No extra hardware.

Setup

Two apps, cleanly separated

Client at the customer, operator with you, each does exactly one job.
Client

Runs on the customer’s PC at the vehicle

A lean, free app on the customer’s laptop, plugged into the car via the ENET cable, that does one thing: detect the vehicle and securely relay the diagnostic connection over VPN.

  • Auto-detects car & gateway
  • Relays diagnostic ports only, nothing else
  • No coding features on board = no misuse
  • Windows & macOS
Operator

Runs with you, the coder

The control centre: pick vehicles, start a session, read status, chat with the customer, and code with E-Sys/ISTA/Tool32.

  • Multi-session across several cars
  • Live status, control, fault memory, logs
  • Direct ECU link + HTTP flashing (RAM, MGU)
  • Licensed (FSC, bound to HWID)
  • Windows
Why separate them? The customer only gets the harmless, free client, a pure relay with no coding capability. All the power sits in the operator, which only you run with a valid license. That keeps the customer side foolproof and your tooling protected.
How it works

Connected in three steps

Remote ENET works over any VPN, the only requirement is that you and the customer’s laptop share one virtual network. Both sides install the same free VPN, join a single network, and you’re connected. No router changes, no port forwarding.

Customer on Windows

Pick one of these free VPNs, both are quick to install and need no configuration on the router:

Customer on macOS

On macOS we recommend ZeroTier, free, lightweight and reliable:

1

Both join one VPN network

You and the customer install the same VPN and join a single network, with Radmin a network name + password, with ZeroTier a Network ID that you authorize.

→
2

Customer starts the client

The customer plugs the ENET cable from their laptop into the car and starts the Client. It shows the laptop’s VPN IP.

→
3

Operator connects & codes

In the Operator, pick the vehicle (or add the client’s VPN IP manually), start the session and code with E-Sys, ISTA or Tool32.

Features

Everything a remote session needs

The essentials for a safe remote session, plus everything else you would expect.

Auto-detection

VIN, model, type code, build date and I-level (factory & current) are read automatically.

ENET & ICOM

Connect through the ENET cable or a BMW ICOM. The client auto-detects the interface (ENET, then ICOM via SLP on port 50160), or you fix one to skip the scan.

Live vehicle status

Battery voltage, mileage and diagnostic mode with real PWF state, read from the car, not guessed.

Multi-session

Detect and operate several vehicles at once, each with its own status, log and chat.

VPN-agnostic

Runs over any existing IP connection, Radmin, WireGuard, Tailscale, ZeroTier. No specific provider required.

Chat with file transfer

Messages with timestamps and read ticks, image & file attachments and paste-screenshot via Ctrl+V, no phone call needed.

Log, verbose & dump

Dedicated log window with a live verbose filter. Coding stays fully logged; only real firmware flashes are summarised, and an on-demand data-transfer dump captures the raw UDS traffic (hex) for reverse engineering.

Built-in help

Every readout, button and setting explained in the app, step by step, in German and English — for the operator and the customer.

Self-updating

The Windows and macOS clients update themselves, no manual download. An optional Beta channel per role delivers early builds.

Connection test & safe-flash indicator

Before you flash, run the built-in connection test between operator and client. It measures link stability and gives a clear verdict, safe, marginal or unsafe, backed by live frames ↑/↓ and a drop counter. A stable link means flashing is safe; on a shaky link the tool warns you up front, because a dropout mid-flash can brick the control unit.

Flash Ethernet ECUs remotely — even the MGU, over HTTP

Head units, RAM and other Ethernet control units are where most remote tools give up. Remote ENET handles them end to end: direct ECU connections, the fast HTTP path and both testers side by side.
Direct ECU link

Connections straight to the ECU, across the VPN

To flash an Ethernet ECU, E-Sys opens a second connection directly to the control unit’s own IP — bypassing the gateway. Over a VPN that address simply does not exist. Remote ENET creates it locally on your PC, catches the connection and tunnels it through the client to the real ECU in the car.

✓ RAM flashed remotely
HTTP flashing

The MGU over HTTP, the way the tester wants it

Big Ethernet ECUs like the MGU are meant to be flashed over HTTP, not plain UDS. The tester only picks HTTP on a link-local connection, so Remote ENET offers E-Sys the car under its link-local address automatically. No gateway URL to type, no tricks in E-Sys.

✓ MGU flashed over HTTP, remote
E-Sys or ISTA

One switch decides who gets HTTP

Pick E-Sys HTTP or ISTA HTTP in the settings — it applies instantly, even mid-session. The other tester keeps finding the car at the same time over the VPN. You only ever flash with one of them, so that is all you need.

✓ Both testers, one session

How the HTTP path works

The tester talks to a local copy of the car’s address; the ECU’s download comes back through the client — all over your existing VPN.

Ethernet ECU direct link (RAM/MGU flashing)
Needed to flash Ethernet ECUs. Catches E-Sys locally on the Windows loopback; no extra adapter. Self-test should be green.
✓ OK – loopback, alias + listener + local connection work.
HTTP flashing (alias IP)
Which tester gets the alias IP on auto-connect (required for HTTP flashing, e.g. MGU). The other one uses the VPN IP (UDS).
E-Sys HTTP — E-Sys on the alias IP, ISTA via the VPN IP
Off — E-Sys and ISTA via the VPN IP (UDS flashing)
E-Sys HTTP — E-Sys on the alias IP, ISTA via the VPN IP
ISTA HTTP — ISTA on the alias IP, E-Sys via the VPN IP
Applies as soon as you pick it, also during a running session.

Log window — client & operator

Two separate mechanisms: the customer sees only events, the operator additionally the raw data transfer, with a verbose filter and an on-demand dump for reverse engineering & diagnostics.

Connection quality

Watch the link, do not just hope

The operator keeps a live latency and voltage history for every session. At a glance you see whether the link is steady enough to flash, spot outliers before they matter, and catch a sagging battery voltage early.
